Algiers International Book Fair Hosts 1,567 Exhibitors from 51 Countries

The 29th Algiers International Book Fair (SILA) is set to take place from October 28 to November 7 at the Palais des expositions des Pins maritimes in Algiers, operating under the patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. This edition, themed "Tomorrow between the pages of a book," will host a record 1,567 exhibitors representing 51 countries from Africa, Europe, Asia, and the United States, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as the guest of honor. Exhibitors comprise 350 Algerian, 554 Arab, and 663 foreign publishing houses, presenting approximately 300,000 book titles across various literary, intellectual, and scientific fields.
A central focus of this year's program will be the celebration of national memory and the unwavering support for just causes. The fair will feature 994 cultural, literary, and intellectual activities, including 61 seminars with 220 international and national guests. Reflecting Algeria's firm stances, the program highlights the Palestinian and Sahrawi causes, commemorates the centenary of the "North African Star" and the state of Emir Abdelkader, and marks the centenary of Algerian theater, while also reinforcing the African dimension through the "Banaff" space. A new "History and Memory" space in the Gourara wing will utilize 3D projection mapping to offer an immersive visual experience of Algerian history.
The exhibition area for SILA has significantly expanded, doubling to 45,500 square meters. This growth includes the inauguration of a new "Palestine" wing, providing 763 additional spaces, alongside a dedicated 150-square-meter children's wing. In a move to foster young talent and encourage literary innovation, the third edition of the "My First Book" award will be held in four languages: Arabic, Amazigh, English, and French. Additionally, the first edition of the "Translation Award" will be launched to recognize the best Algerian translator, promoting translation efforts and the global presence of Algerian literature. State institutions, including customs, national security, civil protection, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, have provided essential support for logistics and international delegation reception.
