Amel Abdellatif Announces New Trade Sector Regulatory Texts

Algeria's Ministry of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation is actively preparing new regulatory texts aimed at organizing the activities of sales intermediaries and establishing caps on profit margins. This initiative, announced by Minister Amel Abdellatif, aligns with directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasizing the sector's commitment to safeguarding citizen purchasing power and ensuring the stability of basic goods prices. The necessary financial resources continue to be mobilized to support these efforts.
As part of these measures, the Ministry plans to intensify daily local monitoring of prices and product availability, working in coordination with Walis and local sector services. Field inspections will also be enhanced to identify market imbalances, determine their causes, and direct interventions based on recorded data. Furthermore, collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and the High Commission for Digitalization is underway to develop a shared digital database. This platform will consolidate and analyze information related to product availability and pricing, facilitating an early warning system for unusual price increases.
The comprehensive strategy also involves coordinating mechanisms for acquiring and storing surpluses of local production, allowing for their re-release into the market when needed. Additionally, commercial practices concerning imported products will be closely monitored to scrutinize and verify any recorded price discrepancies. This integrated approach, combining field oversight, digital information, and economic analysis, is designed to bolster the sector's capacity for timely intervention, support consistent supply, and contribute to overall market stability.
