Austria Funds Algerian Researchers with Up to €20,000 Scholarships

Austria has launched a program offering excellence scholarships to Algerian doctoral and post-doctoral researchers, with grants ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 euros. This significant funding opportunity, announced by the Austrian Embassy in Algeria, is provided by the Fonds Edith Saurer to support advanced research endeavors. The initiative aims to foster international scientific collaboration and provide Algerian academics with resources to pursue their studies in Europe.

The scholarships are specifically designed for PhD holders and post-doctoral researchers in the humanities, with a strong emphasis on historical research and its interdisciplinary applications. Eligible projects must be currently underway and focus on the history of social disparities, exploring themes related to gender, class, and culture. The program particularly values comparative and transnational approaches within European history, spanning from the modern era through the 20th century.

Prospective applicants are invited to submit their dossiers online by December 31, 2026, with application sessions having commenced on October 1. Submissions can be made in either English or German and require candidates to create an online account for management and tracking. Required documents include a curriculum vitae, limited to three pages and submitted without a photo, alongside a PDF document detailing scientific publications from the past five years. Successful research projects are expected to be completed within two years of the scholarship's award, and the program accommodates both individual and duo applications.
