Baghdad Meeting Sets Palestine, Islamic Unity as Key Priorities

Algerian Secretary of State Sofiène Chaib represented Algeria at the 52nd session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OCI) Council of Foreign Ministers in Baghdad, where he underscored the critical need for OIC member states to unify efforts. He emphasized strengthening coordination and solidarity to address mounting regional and international tension hotspots and crises, advocating for collective responses rooted in dialogue and peaceful dispute resolution, while upholding international law, state sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

During his participation, Mr. Chaib firmly reiterated Algeria's unwavering support for the just Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. This includes their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital. He urged a unified stance and practical measures to counter ongoing illegal practices by the occupation authorities, particularly those targeting the historical and legal status of Jerusalem, and called for sustained efforts to address the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The 52nd OCI session concluded with the formalization of common positions and guidelines in the "Baghdad Declaration," notably establishing the Palestinian cause and strengthening Islamic solidarity as key priorities for member states. This outcome aligns with Algeria's consistent advocacy for diplomatic mobilization in support of Palestinian rights, protection of Al-Quds, and concerted efforts to end the suffering in Gaza, alongside broader initiatives for enhanced cooperation across the Islamic world.
