Brahim Merad Praises the Industrial Role Played by Bordj Bou Arreridj Province

The Minister of State and Minister of the Interior and Local Authorities, Mr. Brahim Merad, praised the leading industrial role played by Bordj Bou Arreridj province and its significant contribution to national production and exports.
The minister said this is strongly in line with the strategy of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which aims to end economic and food dependency and to achieve food and water security “with our own hands.” He stressed that independence must be followed by liberation in the economic and agricultural fields.
Projects completed in the province include the upgrading of the Ras El Oued and El Hamadia industrial zones, the development of the road network, and the strengthening of health, education, and sports facilities. These projects form essential infrastructure for encouraging productive investment and attracting investors.
The figures reflect the scale of the province’s development leap. Between 2023 and 2026, it received funding of more than 30 billion dinars, which made it possible to register over 1,650 development operations, including more than 380 under the Municipal Socio-Economic Development Support Program and the Solidarity and Guarantee Fund for Local Authorities. In support of food security and the valorization of water resources, 60 local grain storage centers with a total capacity of 300,000 quintals were built and delivered. A wastewater treatment plant in Ras El Oued has also entered service, and work has begun on another plant in Bordj El Ghedir.
Regarding the next phase, the minister called on local officials to put citizens at the center of all concerns and to make good use of the energies and expertise of all development partners. He stressed the need for a clear development vision based on regular fieldwork follow-up and effective management, with particular attention to investment projects by supporting investors and strengthening the role of the one-stop shop for investment. He added that what has been achieved and what will be achieved came only through dialogue, respect, and participatory work, urging local officials to adopt a policy of persuasion and to work in the field side by side with all partners.
The minister’s remarks came as he presided over the installation of Mr. Radouane Khelifa as the new governor of Bordj Bou Arreridj province, succeeding Mr. Kamel Nouicer, who was appointed governor of Tlemcen province, as part of the partial reshuffle of governors approved by the President of the Republic. The ceremony was attended by the province’s judicial, civil, security, and military authorities, national and local elected officials, notables of the province, and representatives of civil society.
