Chlef, Mostaganem, Tlemcen to See Accelerated Desalinated Water Delivery

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has issued directives for the accelerated provision of desalinated seawater to the wilayas of Chlef, Mostaganem, and Tlemcen. These regions have been identified as priority areas for receiving this essential resource, with the presidential instructions given during a Council of Ministers meeting. The orders specifically relate to the study of direct negotiation contracts for connecting discharge points to new desalination plants within these wilayas.
The President also emphasized that the expansion of desalinated water supply to other wilayas will proceed following individual technical studies. These assessments will meticulously determine each wilaya's local potential from both surface and underground water resources before a decision is made regarding their eligibility for desalination technology. This approach underscores a comprehensive strategy for water management.
Furthermore, President Tebboune reiterated the necessity of imposing strict control over the issuance of well drilling permits. This measure is intended to protect and preserve vital underground water resources from depletion. He instructed the government to incorporate these two key points—accelerated desalinated water supply and reinforced well drilling permit controls—into the ongoing draft agricultural orientation law, which is slated for presentation at a future Council of Ministers meeting dedicated to the agricultural sector.
