Danish Traveler Names Algeria Favorite North African Destination

A seasoned Danish traveler, author of The Travelling Dane blog, has shared a detailed account of her visit to Algeria, expressing that the country has become her preferred North African destination. Despite Algeria's current absence from many international tourist circuits, the traveler's experience reportedly surpassed her expectations. She described Algeria as a "gold mine" for enthusiasts of history, archaeology, and architecture, suggesting its potential to become a significant cultural and historical destination.
Her itinerary spanned various significant locations, beginning in Algiers, where the Mediterranean atmosphere and the Ottoman heritage of the Casbah particularly captivated her. She then explored the Roman ruins overlooking the sea in Tipaza before journeying to the M'zab Valley in Ghardaïa, which she cited as a highlight of her trip. Traveling north, Djemila also made a strong impression, and in Constantine, the suspended bridges and the Ahmed Bey Palace stood out during her stay.
Beyond the historical and architectural sites, the Danish traveler emphasized two crucial aspects of her experience: the notable sense of security and the hospitality of the Algerian people. She reported feeling "exceptionally safe" throughout her travels, noting an absence of harassment or persistent commercial solicitations. While acknowledging challenges such as visa formalities, travel logistics, and restaurant closures during Ramadan, her overall enthusiasm remained strong. She particularly cherished memories like sharing an iftar meal with locals in Algiers and was impressed by the welcoming nature of the inhabitants, the affordable prices, and the tranquility of tourist sites, stating she would "return without hesitation.",
