FM Attaf Holds Bilateral Talks with Russian Counterpart in New York

Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf conducted high-level bilateral discussions in New York on the margins of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. These engagements included a meeting with his Russian counterpart, focusing on matters of mutual interest and strengthening diplomatic relations.

Minister Attaf also held talks with Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria. Their discussion reviewed various aspects of bilateral cooperation and reiterated a shared commitment to enhancing this partnership, particularly in economy, energy, training, and higher education, as preparations advance for the fifth session of the Bilateral Joint Commission. Additionally, Attaf met with Téte Antonio, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola, where both ministers acknowledged the positive trajectory of relations between their countries and emphasized the importance of deepening them across priority sectors.

Discussions with Angolan officials extended to an exchange of views on developments in the Middle East and their economic implications for African nations. Both sides highlighted the necessity of strengthening consultation at both bilateral and continental levels to anticipate and address these impacts effectively, safeguarding the interests of African states and their populations. The ministers further addressed the situation in the Sahel, stressing the need for enhanced coordination within African frameworks to confront regional security and development challenges. In a significant reaffirmation, both parties voiced their support for the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.
