El Hadj Larbi, Double Star Oran Plant Hits 45% Progress

Construction work on Algeria's largest tire manufacturing plant, located in the El Hamoul industrial zone within Oran's Tafraoui commune, has reached a 45% completion rate. This progress was confirmed following a site visit by the Wali of Oran, Ibrahim Ouchane, during which he issued directives to expedite the work pace and ensure adherence to the project's established timelines. The Wali also instructed the director of Sonelgaz to plan for a second electrical connection to adequately supply the industrial unit, acknowledging the substantial energy requirements of the facility.

The ambitious project, a joint investment between the Algerian El Hadj Larbi Industries group and the Chinese Double Star group, represents a significant investment of 50 billion dinars. Upon its initial phase of operation, the plant is projected to achieve a production capacity of at least 7 million tires annually, with plans for a gradual increase in this volume. This industrial development is also expected to be a substantial contributor to employment, anticipating the creation of 2,000 direct jobs.

This Oran plant is an integral part of a broader national initiative encompassing four tire manufacturing projects across Algeria, specifically in Oran, Sétif, Aïn M'lila, and Touggourt. These combined projects are designed to achieve a cumulative production capacity of 20 million tires per year, catering to both light and heavy vehicles. The advancements made in Oran underscore Algeria's commitment to industrial expansion and economic diversification.
