Interior Minister Directs Port Specialization, Djen Djen Takes Private Car Imports

Minister of Interior, Local Communities, and Transport, Saïd Sayoud, chaired a meeting on October 12, 2026, at the Government Palace to monitor the implementation of a decision by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune regarding the reorganization of national ports. This initiative designates Mostaganem port exclusively for import operations by public enterprises and companies. The discussions aimed to finalize the mechanisms for redistributing port activities and transferring them to other national facilities, an effort that follows the Minister's working visit to Mostaganem port on September 14, 2026.

During the meeting, Minister Sayoud issued directives for the transfer of private car import activities from Mostaganem port to Djen Djen port, with a firm deadline of December 31, 2026. Additionally, other import activities for private operators currently handled by Mostaganem will be redistributed among Algeria's remaining national ports. These specific measures are designed to ensure that Mostaganem port can focus solely on public sector imports, aligning with the President's instructions.

These actions represent the first phase in a broader strategy to reorganize the national port system on principles of specialization and integration. The overarching goal is to achieve a more efficient redistribution of commercial activities, optimize the utilization of port infrastructure, and elevate the operational performance of all facilities. Such improvements are expected to significantly enhance the effectiveness of port services across the country.
