Fire Victims to Receive 1.2 Trillion Centimes in State Aid

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced the mobilization of nearly 1.2 trillion centimes, or approximately 1,200 billion centimes, to provide compensation for victims of recent fires. The announcement was made during a periodic interview with national media representatives, broadcast on Saturday, October 3, 2026. This substantial financial commitment underscores the state's resolve to support its citizens impacted by the widespread blazes.
The fires affected numerous wilayas in the east and center of the country. President Tebboune noted that investigations have revealed many of these incidents were deliberately provoked. Methods included remote ignition and the use of candles to start new fire outbreaks, with some acts exploiting mentally unstable individuals. The President affirmed that the time would come to fully disclose all findings related to these criminal acts.
In light of these challenges, President Tebboune reiterated his praise for the efforts of civil protection members in confronting the fires. He recalled his decision to increase the salaries for this vital corps, ensuring remuneration aligns with the demanding nature of their duties. This recognition highlights the nation's appreciation for those on the front lines of emergency response.
The President also commemorated the sacrifices of all individuals who have lost their lives in the face of natural disasters in Algeria in recent years. He specifically recalled the heroic dedication of members of the National Popular Army during the summer 2021 fires, which resulted in the loss of 80 soldiers, among a total of 190 victims. Furthermore, he remembered the bravery of a police officer who died saving a family surrounded by flames in Jijel wilaya, symbolizing the profound commitment of the nation's protectors.
