Five Algerian Students Compete in Global Robotics Challenge

Five Algerian high school students are set to participate in the FIRST Global Challenge 2026, a worldwide robotics competition taking place in Incheon, South Korea. The event, scheduled from October 7 to 12, will see "Team Algeria" compete with support from Samsung Electronics Algérie and Altis Training Center. The team's participation is also under the patronage of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-Entreprises. Young people from over 190 countries are expected to gather for this international challenge.
This year's FIRST Global Challenge tasks participants with designing a robot capable of intervening in simulated forest fire situations. This theme holds particular relevance for Algeria, a nation that annually experiences forest fires. Samsung's involvement aims to familiarize young participants with the practical application of technology in addressing environmental challenges. Beyond the competition, the five Algerian students are scheduled to visit the Korean Fire Research Institute (NFRI) on October 12, further enhancing their experience.
The participation of "Team Algeria" underscores the potential of young Algerian talent, with Altis Training Center providing technical, pedagogical preparation, and supervision. Before their departure, the team was received by the Korean Ambassador to Algeria, Min Kyung-tae. This initiative aligns with a broader strategy by Samsung in Algeria, which recently launched the 2026 edition of its Samsung Innovation Campus on October 3. This program, in partnership with the École Supérieure d'Informatique (ESI), focuses on developing artificial intelligence skills among Algerian students, further investing in the nation's technological capabilities.
