Government Examines 2024 Budget Law, Methane Control, Election Readiness

The Algerian government, led by Prime Minister Seifi Ghrieb, recently convened to study the preliminary draft of the 2024 budget settlement law. This law serves as a fundamental instrument for verifying the alignment between financial law forecasts and actual outcomes, while also assessing the implementation conditions of planned actions and evaluating their results. This process underscores the state's commitment to robust financial oversight and transparent fiscal management.
During the meeting, the government also received a presentation on the national tool designed for the detection, measurement, and reduction of methane emissions. Officials reiterated that controlling methane emissions is a strategic imperative for Algeria, vital for fulfilling its international climate obligations, safeguarding its energy resources, and enhancing the competitiveness of its exports. This mechanism is specifically intended to strengthen the measurement, monitoring, and reduction of methane emissions, alongside improving inter-sectoral coordination across relevant government bodies.
This initiative forms part of Algeria's broader efforts to elevate the environmental performance of its national economy and support local economic operators in meeting international standards for greenhouse gas reduction. Concurrently, the government reviewed the various material and logistical aspects associated with organizing and conducting the electoral process. The focus was on ensuring that all necessary conditions and capabilities are provided, in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory provisions, particularly Article 07 of Order No. 21-01, which outlines the legal framework for coordination among the various entities involved in elections.
