Greek Parliament President Visits Algeria for Cooperation Expansion
The President of the Hellenic Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis, recently concluded a working visit to Algeria, engaging in significant discussions with Algerian officials to bolster bilateral cooperation. The talks primarily centered on expanding partnerships in the vital energy sector and exploring new avenues for collaboration in health, emphasizing digital transformation and knowledge exchange. This visit underscored the ongoing dynamic between the two nations, aiming to serve their common interests through intensified consultation and shared expertise.
During his meeting with Mohamed Arkab, Algeria's Minister of Hydrocarbons, discussions focused extensively on strengthening and broadening bilateral cooperation in hydrocarbons. Both parties reviewed current relations and identified prospects for advancing economic and investment partnerships. Specific areas of collaboration included crude oil, petroleum products, and liquefied natural gas (LNG), with Minister Arkab highlighting Algeria's role as a strategic and reliable partner for Greece in hydrocarbon supply, particularly natural gas, referencing the existing Sonatrach-DEPA partnership. The importance of developing investments in hydrocarbon exploration and production to boost natural gas output was stressed, alongside efforts to reduce methane emissions and carbon footprint. Greek companies were encouraged to increase their presence and invest in Algeria's oil and gas industry, capitalizing on new legal frameworks and incentives for local manufacturing of equipment.
Beyond energy, the delegation also explored cooperation opportunities within the health sector. Key discussions revolved around the digitization of health services, fostering twinning programs, and facilitating the exchange of expertise between Algerian and Greek institutions. This focus on public services, coupled with the robust energy dialogues, reflected a comprehensive approach to strengthening the overall bilateral relationship.
