International Book Fair Draws 1500 Publishers, Saudi Arabia Guest

The 29th International Book Fair of Algiers (SILA), held from October 28 to November 7 at the Palais des expositions, is set to gather 1,567 exhibitors representing 51 countries under the theme “Tomorrow between the pages of a book.” This edition is noted as a record-breaking event, highlighting Algeria's standing as a global literary destination. Publishers from Algeria, Arab nations, and other international countries will present nearly 300,000 titles across various literary, intellectual, and scientific genres, with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participating as the guest of honor.
A comprehensive cultural program accompanies the fair, featuring 994 diverse cultural, literary, and intellectual activities. These events include book-signing sessions, interactive children's activities aimed at fostering a love for reading, and 61 major cultural engagements involving approximately 220 writers and intellectuals from Algeria, the Arab world, Africa, Europe, and America. A new “History and Memory” pavilion will also debut, utilizing 3D projection mapping to offer visitors an innovative experience of Algeria's historical milestones, connecting younger generations with their national heritage through modern visual language.
The selection of Saudi Arabia as guest of honor underscores efforts to strengthen deep-rooted cultural and historical ties between the two nations, fostering communication among creators and intellectuals. The fair, organized under the patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, also includes initiatives such as the third edition of the “My first book” prize for young authors and the inaugural “Translation Prize” to recognize Algerian translators. The 29th SILA aims to transcend book exhibitions, deepening human dialogue, stimulating the publishing sector's economy, and making the latest global publications accessible to Algerian readers at competitive prices.
