International Firm A.P. Moller Capital Acquires Portek, Including Algerian Operations

A.P. Moller Capital, the investment management arm of the A.P. Moller Group, has announced its agreement to acquire Portek International from Mitsui & Co. This acquisition expands A.P. Moller Capital's portfolio of port and logistics investments, which currently includes approximately $2 billion in assets under management. The move aligns with the firm's strategy to enhance its presence in diverse global logistics sectors.
Portek International, established in 1988, operates as a cargo port terminal operator and engineering business with interests across Africa, Asia, and Europe. Its geographically diversified portfolio of multipurpose terminals serves both local and international trade flows, with interests spanning Algeria, Gabon, Indonesia, Latvia, Malta, and Vietnam. This acquisition underscores the strategic importance of Algerian ports within international logistics networks.
Following the completion of the acquisition, A.P. Moller Capital plans to collaborate closely with Portek’s local operating teams. The objective is to build upon the company’s existing capabilities and support its next phase of development, focusing on operational performance, governance, safety, capital discipline, and environmental performance, including emissions-reduction planning. Such initiatives are poised to contribute positively to the development and efficiency of Portek's operations in Algeria.
