Locally Produced Bread Yeast Commercialized in Algeria

Algeria has officially launched the commercialization of its first locally produced bread yeast, marking a significant step towards bolstering national productive sovereignty. Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamal Rezig, announced this development, highlighting its potential to reduce the annual import bill for yeast by an estimated $100 million. This initiative is designed to strengthen domestic production capabilities and lessen the country's reliance on imported goods in the food sector.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the first exhibition of manufactured food products, held in Blida province. This event, themed "Local quality and promising prospects for export," featured the participation of 96 national economic institutions. The opening ceremony also saw the attendance of diplomatic representatives, including ambassadors and chargés d'affaires, from 20 countries, underscoring efforts to promote Algerian products and introduce the capacities of national enterprises to international partners and markets.
During his visit to the exhibition alongside Blida Governor Jamal Hasas, Minister Rezig observed the diverse production capacities, product variety, and quality levels of the participating companies. He emphasized the exhibition's crucial role in showcasing the quality of locally manufactured food products and the capabilities of Algerian businesses. The Minister further stressed the importance of leveraging the diplomatic presence to establish direct communication channels between Algerian and foreign economic operators, thereby exploring new commercial partnerships, expanding national exports, and enhancing the competitiveness of Algerian products in global markets.
