Minister Khaldi Advocates Robust Scandinavian Ties in Oslo

Algeria has articulated a strong desire to establish a "true partnership" with Nordic countries, focusing on investment, technology transfer, and enhanced training across diverse sectors. This aspiration was conveyed by Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, Sid Ali Khaldi, in Oslo, Norway, during his intervention at a high-level dialogue conference titled "African Unity Today." The conference was part of the opening session of the 15th African-Scandinavian Summit, where Algeria participated as a special guest of honor.
Minister Khaldi elaborated that Algeria seeks a partnership founded on investment in resource transformation, the transfer of expertise and technology, training initiatives, and a robust exchange of products in both directions. He highlighted Norway's pioneering experience in sustainable resource management and the protection of present and future generations' rights as an inspiring model. The Minister also underscored Algeria's commitment to African integration, evidenced by major infrastructure projects such as the Trans-Saharan Road, the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline, and various fiber optic initiatives.
During his remarks, Minister Khaldi emphasized that Algeria has prioritized food security as a major national objective, integral to its national security and sovereignty. He viewed the summit as an opportunity to reaffirm Algeria's dedication to complementing Africa's political sovereignty with economic sovereignty, aligning with the vision of the Organization of African Unity and African Union founders. The minister also asserted that while Africa's political slogan is "Africa for Africans," its economic motto should be "Africa is a partner for all." On the sidelines of the summit, Minister Khaldi met with Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide, where both parties discussed avenues for bolstering bilateral cooperation and acknowledged the excellent level of existing relations marked by regular dialogue. They also identified promising opportunities to elevate economic cooperation, particularly in the agriculture and fisheries sectors.
