New Commission Formed for Import Request Monitoring

Algeria has officially established a new permanent commission tasked with the oversight and processing of import requests, as detailed in an executive decree published in the latest official gazette. This new body is designed to enhance the regulation of commercial activities, setting clear guidelines for its composition, missions, and operational framework. The commission will be presided over by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, signaling a focused effort to streamline national import procedures.
The commission's core responsibilities include diligently following import files, thoroughly examining requests, and issuing informed opinions on each operation. Its mandate extends to a detailed analysis of import activities undertaken by operators, whether for their own production and service-related needs or on behalf of third parties. A crucial function is the urgent processing of requests for sensitive or priority products, aiming to safeguard the supply of the national market and ensure the continuous operation of production units. Furthermore, the commission is empowered to propose measures that can facilitate the overall processing of import demands.
Comprising representatives from key institutions such as the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Algeria, the Professional Association of Banks and Financial Institutions (ABEF), and the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), the commission reflects a comprehensive approach to import governance. It is authorized to form specialized working groups to assist in its duties and is required to perform periodic evaluations and analyses of data from the digital platform dedicated to import requests. Weekly reports on its activities will be submitted by its president to the Prime Minister, ensuring consistent oversight and accountability.
