Nigerien Media Delegation Visits Algeria for Cooperation

A delegation from Niger's National Communication Observatory (ONC), led by President Ibrahim Manzo Diallo, conducted a working mission in Algeria from October 19 to 24. The visit aimed to strengthen institutional cooperation and facilitate the sharing of experiences in media regulation, audiovisual communication, and governance. The delegation included key ONC members, underscoring the importance of the exchange for both nations.
A significant aspect of the mission was the engagement with Algeria's National Independent Audiovisual Regulatory Authority (ANIRA), where the Nigerien delegation was received by ANIRA President Amar Bendjedda. This meeting served as a platform for institutional discussions on audiovisual regulation and exploring avenues for future cooperation. Such exchanges are considered essential for regulatory bodies adapting to the evolving media landscape and addressing challenges presented by new information and communication technologies. The delegation also met with Algerian Communication Minister Mohamed Bouslami to review existing cooperation in the communication sector.
The Nigerien delegation gained insights into Algeria's media ecosystem through visits to various national institutions. These included the Agence Presse Service (APS), the National Public Television Establishment (ENTV), the National Sound Broadcasting Establishment (ENRS), the Public Television Broadcasting Establishment of Algeria (TDA), and the AL24 News channel. These visits provided an opportunity for the ONC to observe the diversity of Algeria's audiovisual sector, understanding the interplay between editorial activities, production methods, and broadcasting infrastructure.
Beyond the professional engagements, the delegation's stay also featured visits to culturally significant sites, including the Martyrs' Sanctuary and the National Museum of Moudjahid, which offered a deeper understanding of Algeria's struggle for independence. A visit to the Great Mosque of Algiers, Djamaâ El-Djazaïr, further highlighted Algeria's architectural, religious, and civilizational prominence. ONC President Ibrahim Manzo Diallo emphasized that the mission would contribute to strengthening cooperation and capacity building, underscoring the importance of experience sharing among African institutions for effective media regulation.
