Non-Hydrocarbon Exports Near $4 Billion, Up 10%

Algeria's non-hydrocarbon exports reached nearly $4 billion during the first eight months of the current year, registering an increase of approximately 10% compared to the same period in 2025. This was confirmed by Zouhir Moussaoui, Central Director at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion. Additionally, food industry products contributed $213 million to these exports over the same eight-month period, a 15% rise also when compared to the corresponding period in 2025, according to Moussaoui.
These figures underscore a notable recovery in Algerian exports to international markets, as highlighted by Moussaoui. He emphasized that the primary objective extends beyond achieving high numbers, focusing instead on sustaining export dynamism and ensuring its continuity. This strategy is intended to enable non-hydrocarbon exports to significantly reduce the trade deficit or at least offset a substantial portion of imports. The "Made in Algeria" food industry products exhibition, held in Blida, was cited as crucial for bolstering the national economy and promoting Algeria's productive capabilities and the quality and diversity of its local products.
Algeria has achieved self-sufficiency in numerous agricultural and food items, particularly in sectors such as beverages, pasta, biscuits, sweets, and various food preparations. The domestic availability of these products enhances the national market, especially amid rising global prices, and contributes to meeting consumer needs while reducing reliance on imports. Historically, Algeria imported $28 million worth of biscuits, but the expansion of local production and the emergence of competitive Algerian brands have transformed the market. Algerian confectionery and dry sweets now reach markets in approximately 30 countries across Asia, America, Europe, and Africa. Efforts to promote these goods internationally include participation in global exhibitions, the establishment of business councils, and leveraging the role of Algerian embassies, with Algeria set to be the guest of honor at an upcoming exhibition in Senegal to foster economic and trade ties with West African nations.
