North Africa Gas Flow Enhanced by €405 Million Pipeline Deal

Italian energy infrastructure company Snam completed a significant €405 million transaction on October 18, 2026, acquiring a 49.9 percent stake in pipeline assets previously held by Eni. This deal specifically targets infrastructure linked to the crucial gas transmission route between Algeria and Italy. The acquisition focuses on companies operating both onshore pipelines extending from the borders of Algeria and Tunisia to the Tunisian coast, and the vital offshore connections that link Tunisia with Italy.
The transaction underscores a substantial investment in the region's gas transmission capabilities. By securing a nearly 50 percent share in these key pipeline assets, Snam expands its operational presence across the essential North African gas corridors. This involvement covers the entire route, from gas originating at Algeria's borders, through Tunisia, and across the Mediterranean to Italy.
This strategic partnership is expected to give Snam a more prominent role in the infrastructure facilitating North African gas flows, benefiting the overall energy supply chain. Furthermore, the collaboration extends beyond gas transmission to include studies on energy transition and the application of hydrogen technologies. This forward-looking aspect supports the development of diverse energy solutions in the region, aligning with global energy trends.
