OIC Nations Pressed for Unified Crisis Response by Algeria

Algerian Secretary of State for the National Community Abroad, Soufiane Chaib, recently underscored the urgent need for Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states to unite their efforts, enhance coordination, and bolster solidarity. Speaking at the 52nd session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Baghdad, Mr. Chaib highlighted the critical nature of the current international and regional climate, emphasizing that collective action is essential to confront escalating tensions and crises effectively. This approach aims to foster active joint responses rooted in dialogue and the peaceful resolution of conflicts, all while upholding the principles of international law, state sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

During his address, the Secretary of State reiterated Algeria's unwavering support for the just Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. This includes their fundamental right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital. Mr. Chaib called for a unified stance and concrete measures to counter the ongoing illicit practices by occupation authorities, particularly those that threaten the historical and legal status of Jerusalem. He also urged for continued dedication to addressing the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

Mr. Chaib also stressed the importance of strengthening solidarity among OIC member states in the face of various conflicts and crises they encounter. He advocated for intensified efforts to combat Islamophobia and hate speech, alongside elevating economic and developmental cooperation. These initiatives, he noted, are vital for serving the common interests of member states and enhancing the overall role and effectiveness of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. The Baghdad session concluded with the adoption of the Baghdad Declaration, alongside several resolutions pertinent to agenda items such as supporting the Palestinian cause, expressing solidarity with Saudi Arabia and Sudan, advancing OIC reform, and promoting economic, inter-trade, energy, and various developmental, cultural, and social partnerships.
