Russia, Algeria Sign Cultural Pact Extending to 2030

Algeria and Russia have formally signed an executive program for cultural and artistic cooperation, setting a framework for collaboration that will extend until 2030. The agreement was concluded following a bilateral meeting between Algeria's Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Ben Doudah, and her Russian counterpart, Olga Lyubimova, held on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg United Cultures Forum. Their discussions focused on bolstering cultural and artistic relations and broadening partnership opportunities between the two nations.

The newly signed program encompasses a variety of joint initiatives and projects, particularly emphasizing cinema, theater, music, artistic and academic training, and heritage preservation, alongside reciprocal cultural events. Minister Lyubimova acknowledged the participation of Algerian children, referred to as 'Culture Cubs,' in the forum's children's cultural activities, highlighting its role in fostering closer ties. Minister Ben Doudah underscored the deep historical foundations of cultural and artistic training shared by Algeria and Russia, noting that many Algerian professionals received their education in Russia and now contribute significantly to developing the arts in Algeria and training new generations.

Discussions also addressed preparations for the 65th anniversary of Algerian-Russian diplomatic relations, slated for 2027. Both sides explored mechanisms to advance cinematic cooperation, specifically in areas such as specialized training, expertise exchange, and the production of documentary films. This executive program is designed to establish an institutional framework that will facilitate numerous joint ventures and strengthen communication between cultural institutions and artists in both Algeria and Russia.
