Sahara Blend Tops OPEC Crude Prices in September

The Algerian 'Sahara Blend' crude topped the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) reference basket in September 2026, according to the organization's monthly report released in October 2026. This significant ascent positions 'Sahara Blend' at the forefront of key global crude prices, reflecting its strong performance in the international oil market.

The report detailed that 'Sahara Blend' recorded $118.49 per barrel in September, an increase from $94.32 in August. This represents a monthly surge of $24.17 per barrel, translating to approximately 26% growth. On a year-to-date basis for 2026, the average price for the Algerian crude reached $96.95 per barrel, compared to $71.49 during the equivalent period in 2025, demonstrating a 36% annual growth and an increase of $25.46.

This robust performance has placed 'Sahara Blend' at the top of the OPEC reference basket, surpassing other notable crudes. It exceeded Nigeria's 'Bonny Light,' which had an annual average of $96.58 per barrel, as well as Libya's 'Es Sider' at $117.49 and Saudi 'Arab Light' at $109.02. This strong market standing highlights Algeria's significant role in the global energy landscape.
