Tebboune Affirms Algeria’s Stability Role, Regional Development

Algeria has consistently demonstrated wisdom, solidarity, and firmness in countering destabilization attempts, thereby reaffirming its integral role as a pillar of peace, security, and development for its neighbors and the wider African continent. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune recently lauded the "excellent relations" shared between Algeria, Niger, and Chad, even as he acknowledged "attempts to disrupt this harmony at all levels." He underscored Algeria's unwavering commitment to a foreign policy founded on respecting state sovereignty, non-interference, and the pursuit of political and peaceful resolutions, emphasizing the critical role of development in achieving stability across the Sahel.
In a tangible demonstration of this commitment, Algeria responded to a request from Niamey by providing air support to the Nigerien army following a destabilization attempt in that country. This intervention highlights Algeria's proactive stance in supporting its allies. Beyond immediate assistance, the Algerian administration is actively launching public interest projects in neighboring countries, particularly within the Sahel region. These initiatives are designed to foster long-term, concrete advancements and consolidate relations with its Saharan neighborhood through sustained development.
The Algerian Council of Ministers has mandated rigorous oversight for all ongoing projects in Niger and Chad, along with the simplification of associated procedures, with a particular focus on the energy, education, health, and telecommunications sectors. Energy cooperation specifically targets electricity production and the construction of power plants, while Sonatrach is slated to play a significant role in oil exploration and exploitation, especially in northern Niger. Furthering these efforts, the health and telecommunications domains are earmarked for accelerated exchanges and service deployment, indicating a broad-based approach to regional growth.
A key component of this developmental strategy is professional training, with approximately 500 Nigerien trainees currently in Algeria. They are engaged in programs across 19 specialized fields, including solar energy system installation, IT maintenance, agriculture, and automotive mechanics. This initiative, implemented under presidential instruction, directly addresses Niger's labor market demands and economic development goals. Niger's Ambassador to Algeria, Aminou Malam Manzo, lauded the quality of Algerian training infrastructure and establishments, recognizing the initiative's potential to strengthen cooperation and foster deeper ties between the two nations.
