Tebboune Directs Liberal Shift While Preserving Social Gains

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has outlined a significant structural transformation for Algeria, announcing a move towards a liberal economic model while ensuring the preservation of social gains. This declaration signals a definitive shift from an era defined by a traditional administrative and economic framework, aiming to fully unleash investment potential and foster a modern economy.

For decades, Algerian institutions operated within a centralized, bureaucratic system, inherited from a past tradition. This framework often resulted in chronic delays and complex procedures, which frequently hindered private initiative and sometimes contributed to corrupt practices. Recognizing the urgency of this systemic challenge, the state is now implementing concrete solutions to overcome these ingrained inefficiencies.

A key initiative in this transformation is the widespread adoption of a single window system for administrative procedures. This centralized approach is designed to dismantle bureaucracy by removing unnecessary intermediaries and to curtail the favoritism that previously stifled private enterprise. President Tebboune emphasized that this pivot towards a competitive, liberal economy does not signify a complete withdrawal of the state.

Instead, the state will maintain its essential functions as a regulator and a social protector, forging a healthy strategic partnership with wealth creators. This approach replaces a paralyzing control-oriented logic with one of active support and accompaniment. By moving away from an outdated bureaucratic model, Algeria is choosing efficiency, aiming to transform the business environment into a fertile ground where administration acts as an accelerator for projects, inviting economic operators to fully contribute to building the nation's new economy.
