Timimoun, known as Algeria's 'Red Oasis,' is preparing to host its inaugural international hot air balloon festival. Slated to take place in the desert from October 28 to November 2, 2026, this event marks a significant initiative to promote desert tourism within the region. It represents the first festival of its kind in Algeria, designed to attract both hot air balloon enthusiasts and general tourists alike.

The festival anticipates a robust international presence, with organizers expecting participants from at least twenty countries. Nations such as Spain, France, England, the USA, Italy, Germany, Belgium, China, Vietnam, and Haiti are among those slated to join. The comprehensive program is structured to offer a diverse range of activities over six days, commencing with the reception of participants on the first day.

Scheduled activities include an opening ceremony, musical evenings, and spectacular sunrise balloon flights. Highlights for attendees will feature a demonstration flight of a hot air balloon adorned with the national flag, a display of giant kites, and a workshop for children focused on kite making. The festival will also showcase a nightly spectacle of illuminated hot air balloons held at ground level, as well as an exhibition of various air sports and a kite competition, culminating in a closing ceremony and awards presentation.
