WEF Index: Algeria Climbs to 89th in Tourism Development

Algeria has recorded a significant advancement in the World Economic Forum's (WEF) 2026 Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI), securing the 89th position globally out of 110 countries. This marks a notable progression for the nation's tourism sector, indicating sustained growth. The country improved its standing by four places compared to its 2024 ranking and five places when measured against the 2019 pre-pandemic period.

The latest WEF report highlights Algeria's score of 3.52 out of 7 in travel and tourism development. This score reflects a 3.6% increase from 2024 and a 6.1% increase compared to 2019. The country's upward trajectory is a testament to various internal efforts aimed at enhancing its appeal as a destination.

Key drivers behind this progress include strengthened transport infrastructure, improved reception services, enhanced connectivity, and robust promotion of Algeria's rich cultural and natural heritage. These factors are considered instrumental in supporting the continued ascent of Algeria within the global tourism rankings, affirming a positive outlook for the sector's future development. Algeria now ranks above approximately twenty other nations, primarily on the African continent, demonstrating its growing competitive position in the global travel landscape.
