The Algerian Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructures

announced that the section of the Eastern Mining Railway line linking Oued El Kebrit and Dreira in Souk Ahras province will be completed “before the end of next December.” This segment spans 30 kilometers and is part of the larger project to double and modernize the Eastern Mining line stretching 422 km from Annaba to Bilad El Hedba (Tebessa), within the integrated phosphate exploitation project.

The Minister said that this railway line is crucial in facilitating exports and boosting the national capacities for transporting mined materials in eastern Algeria. He praised the fast pace of work, which should enable the project to be delivered ahead of contractual deadlines.

Additionally, the Minister inspected the works on the doubling of National Road No. 16 between Souk Ahras and Mechroha over 17 km, slated for delivery before the end of the second half of 2026. He called on contractors to reinforce their resources to meet the deadlines.

During his field visit, the Minister also reviewed the railway setting works at Wadi Damous in the Oued El Kebrit municipality, emphasizing that the inspection covered projects in the provinces of Souk Ahras, Guelma, El Tarf, and Annaba to monitor progress and solve challenges in the transport sector. This strategic infrastructure development lays a solid foundation to support phosphate mining and transport, reinforcing Algeria’s economic and export capabilities in the region.
