Morocco earthquake death toll rises to 2,122

The death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck Morocco on Friday night has risen to 2,122, according to the Moroccan Interior Ministry. The number of injured victims has also risen to 2,421.

The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 6.8, struck the Al Haouz province in the Atlas Mountains region. The province has been the hardest hit, with 1,351 deaths. Taroudant has lost 492 people, followed by Chichaoua (201) and Marrakech (17).

Ouarzazate, Azilal, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Casablanca, and Tinghir have not reported any new deaths.

King Mohammed VI of Morocco has declared three days of mourning for the victims of the earthquake. He has also ordered the government to provide immediate assistance to the affected areas.

The earthquake is believed to be the deadliest and strongest to hit Morocco in 120 years.
