Sabrina Aït El Hocine Wins Gold at Robotics Challenge

Sabrina Aït El Hocine, a 15-year-old student from Lycée Mustapha Lachref in Bab-Ezzouar, Algiers, achieved international recognition by winning a gold medal at the First Global Challenge 2026. This prestigious international robotics, science, and technology competition took place in Incheon, South Korea, from October 7 to 10, 2026. Her remarkable achievement saw the Algerian team secure the top position, elevating the national flag on a global stage.

The Algerian group of high school students developed a sophisticated prototype capable of detecting forest fires before they intensify. Addressing the competition's theme of "Forest fires," their mini all-terrain robot was equipped with thermal cameras designed to alert forest rangers, thus preventing uncontrolled spread. This innovative solution was presented among teams representing nearly 190 countries, demonstrating the caliber of Algerian youth in scientific and technological fields.

Sabrina Aït El Hocine shared her pride in the team's success, stating, "We are proud to have raised the flag of our country in South Korea." She detailed her personal journey into robotics, navigating the selection process alongside four other students to contribute to the project. Beyond the competition, the students also explored historical sites in South Korea, including the Korean palace and the cities of Incheon and Seoul, enriching their international experience.
