Algiers Book Fair to Highlight National Development

Algeria is undergoing a significant national transformation, marked by substantial infrastructure projects and a strategic vision for economic diversification. These initiatives, encompassing new railways, roads, energy facilities, and industrial hubs, are designed to connect coastal regions with the High Plateaus and the Saharan South. This effort aims to reduce territorial imbalances and establish new centers for economic development, as detailed in recent analyses by expert engineer Faouzi Djoudi. His upcoming books, "Megaprojects in Algeria" and "Algeria: A New Horizon," to be presented at the Algiers International Book Fair (SILA), provide insight into these foundational works and the broader strategic outlook.

The strategic vision for "The New Algeria" extends beyond infrastructure, focusing on overcoming reliance on energy resources through economic diversification. This involves targeted development in key sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, mining, pharmaceuticals, digital technologies, and tourism. The planning of these megaprojects emphasizes integrated territorial development, ensuring that transport, energy, water, telecommunications, industrial zones, and logistics are interconnected components. This approach leverages Algeria's unique geographic position at the heart of the African and Mediterranean space, aiming to foster partnerships globally and enhance national market integration by linking coastal economic engines to the interior regions.

Southern Algeria, in particular, is identified as holding considerable potential in Saharan agriculture, mineral resources, solar energy, industry, logistics, and tourism. The national strategy seeks to effectively connect these assets to national and international markets, moving beyond simply building infrastructure to creating conditions that enable the South to produce, process, and export more. This focus on developing solid national value chains and transforming territories sustainably aims to reduce regional disparities and generate new sources of wealth, thereby strengthening both national cohesion and international competitiveness.

Furthermore, Algeria is advancing its capabilities in project management and technological know-how by learning from past experiences and engaging in strategic partnerships. The goal is to benefit from international expertise, technologies, and methodologies while actively involving Algerian companies and engineers in all project stages—from design and engineering to construction, supervision, and maintenance.
