Bilateral Cooperation with South Korea Extends Beyond Energy Sector

South Korean Ambassador Min recently affirmed a deepening strategic partnership with Algeria, moving beyond traditional energy cooperation. Speaking at a reception celebrating South Korea's National Day, Ambassador Min noted the use of Algerian naphtha in Korean industries for plastics, automotive components, and medical supplies. This event was attended by Minister of Post and Telecommunications Sid Ali Zerrouki, alongside government, parliamentary, and diplomatic representatives.

The ambassador highlighted several initiatives fostering this expanded collaboration, including an agreement reached in July for direct flights between Algiers and Seoul. This new air connection is expected to facilitate the movement of people and goods, creating additional opportunities for business and bilateral exchanges. Ambassador Min also pointed to 2026 as the 20th anniversary of the strategic partnership between the two nations, viewing it as an opportunity to assess achievements and develop future plans.

The expanded partnership aims to broaden focus into new areas such as technology, manufacturing, agriculture, renewable energy, education, and people-to-people exchanges. Ambassador Min further referenced cultural and historical ties, mentioning similarities in cuisine and ancient trade routes like the Silk Road, trans-Saharan caravan routes, and Mediterranean maritime routes that historically connected different regions.
