Assia Djebar Novel Grand Prize Celebrates Algerian Literature

The eighth edition of the Assia Djebar Novel Grand Prize will take place on October 17, 2026, at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Centre, under the high patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. This year’s theme, “Tomorrow’s Roots Lie in Memory,” connects literary creativity with the preservation of cultural heritage.
The longlist features 26 novels—10 in Arabic, six in Amazigh and 10 in French—selected from 155 submissions by 53 Algerian publishing houses. The works reflect the diversity of Algerian fiction, exploring history, biographies, fantastical worlds, and psychological and experimental narratives.
Established in 2015, the prize honours the literary legacy of Algerian writer Assia Djebar. It highlights literature’s role in preserving national memory, encouraging talent and strengthening the presence of Algerian culture at home and abroad.
