New Committee to Oversee Import Requests Formed in Algeria

Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb presided over the official installation of the permanent committee for monitoring and processing import requests on Saturday. This action was taken in implementation of directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and in accordance with Executive Decree 26-327, dated October 13, 2026, which established the committee. The ceremony was attended by key members including the Minister of Finance, a representative of the Governor of the Bank of Algeria, the President of the Professional Association of Banks and Financial Institutions, and the President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council.
The newly formed committee is tasked with examining requests for all import operations, with a particular focus on the urgent processing of sensitive products or those deemed highly prioritized for supplying the national market and ensuring production continuity. This flexible and effective approach aims to secure a regular flow of essential goods and services, preventing any shortages of raw materials critical for local production.
Prime Minister Ghrieb emphasized that the core objectives of this mechanism are to bolster economic activities, support investment projects, and maintain the abundance of goods and services for citizens. The committee's work is designed to preserve the purchasing power of Algerians and ensure the stability of the national market by effectively managing import processes.
