New Program to Construct Six Desalination Plants by 2030

Minister Mohamed Arkab announced a comprehensive program to establish six new seawater desalination plants, scheduled for completion by 2030. This significant initiative is designed to bolster Algeria's water security and ensure a sustainable supply for its population, aligning with presidential directives aimed at strengthening national resource management.
The planned desalination facilities will collectively have an estimated total daily production capacity of 1.8 million cubic meters. This expansion represents a substantial effort to meet the growing demand for potable water across the country, reflecting a proactive approach to long-term water resource challenges.
Upon the successful implementation of this program, the contribution of desalinated seawater is projected to cover approximately 60 percent of the national drinking water demand by the year 2030. Minister Arkab unveiled these details during a presentation to the Finance and Budget Committee of the National People's Assembly, which was convened to discuss the 2027 finance bill. Minister of Relations with Parliament, Najibah Djilali, was also in attendance.
