Putin Calls Algeria “Closest Ally” of Russia

President Vladimir Putin publicly described Algeria as one of Russia's closest friends and allies, asserting that relations between the two countries are "excellent." These statements were made during his meeting with participants of the XXI Congress of the All-Russian Public Organization "Business Russia" held on October 15 in Moscow. The Russian Embassy in Algiers subsequently shared these remarks on social media.

Putin emphasized the strong ties, stating that Russia and Algeria have never disappointed each other. He further noted the excellent relations in numerous areas, including economic cooperation, and characterized Algeria as a very responsible partner. This diplomatic endorsement highlights a deep and trusting bilateral relationship between the two nations.

The Russian President's comments follow similar affirmations made by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune approximately two weeks prior, on October 3. During a periodic meeting with national media, President Tebboune denied any tensions with Russia, noting that relations predate Algeria's independence and have maintained a strong, mutually beneficial friendship. He indicated that Algeria would welcome the evolution of this friendship into economic integration and views the relationship as a "normal" aspect of its foreign policy, asserting that a phone call with President Putin is sufficient to address matters despite infrequent visits from the Russian Foreign Minister.
