National Milk Output Set to Reach 1.7 Billion Liters Annually

The 'Baladna Algérie' strategic project, designed to bolster national food security and reduce reliance on imports, is set to achieve an annual milk production target of 1.7 billion liters. This significant agricultural and industrial initiative, located in Adrar Province, aims to enhance national milk output and foster investment in food industries. The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, Sid Ali Khaldi, conducted a working visit to inspect the progress of this integrated project.

The extensive project encompasses a total area of 219,000 hectares and plans for a herd of 224,000 cows. During the ministerial visit, several key components were examined, including plot number 1, designated for the construction of a powdered milk factory in Timimoun municipality, where work is 28 percent complete. Inspections also covered pivotal irrigation systems at plot number 2 in Fenoughil municipality, alongside ongoing preparations for the launch of various production phases. Further work includes the construction of 492 enclosures and preparations for the anticipated arrival of the first batch of cows in November.

Emphasis is placed on modern agricultural techniques, particularly efficient irrigation systems and water rationalization, to enhance agricultural productivity and expand cultivated areas. The project integrates large-scale agriculture, cattle breeding, and industrial processing to create a cohesive production system. To support these efforts, a comprehensive human resources plan is in place, involving agreements with vocational training institutions, institutes, and universities to qualify the national workforce for various project stages.

This initiative is poised to fully utilize the agricultural potential inherent in Adrar and Southern Algeria, thereby expanding investment into the desert regions. By establishing a robust local production base, the 'Baladna Algérie' project is expected to meet national milk demands and significantly contribute to Algeria's economic development.
