Abdelkader Djellaoui Chairs Coordination Meeting to Launch Maintenance Operations on the East-West Highway

As part of efforts to speed up the handling of highway network maintenance projects and ensure their long-term durability, Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure Abdelkader Djellaoui chaired a coordination meeting at the ministry’s headquarters this Sunday morning. The meeting was devoted to drawing up a practical roadmap for launching maintenance operations and defining the organizational measures and field-monitoring mechanisms, particularly for the sections classified as black spots on the East-West Highway and the Algiers Second Ring Road.
The meeting was attended by the ministry’s central executives and covered maintenance projects for the relevant sections of the East-West Highway in the wilayas of Constantine, Guelma and Aïn Defla. It also covered the Algiers Second Ring Road, which links Bir Touta to Khemis El Khechna and crosses the wilayas of Algiers, Blida and Boumerdès over a distance of 29 km.
On the occasion, the minister issued a series of instructions aimed at setting a clear methodology for launching the works and carrying them out under the best conditions, namely:
* Draw up a comprehensive organizational plan specifying the intervention schedule, how worksites will be organized, and how work will be coordinated among the various stakeholders.
* Set up supervision and steering committees in the wilayas concerned, tasked with coordinating efforts and monitoring project implementation in the field.
* Install worksites and contractors as soon as possible, completing preparations and mobilizing the necessary material and human resources.
* Have the ministry’s central departments support the contractors and remove any difficulties they may face, in order to speed up implementation.
* Launch maintenance operations imminently, according to a defined intervention schedule and set priorities.
* Ensure continuous field monitoring and assess the progress of the works, while respecting the deadlines and quality standards.
