The Government Reviews National Market Regulation, Housing in Forest Areas, and Water Security

Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb chaired a government meeting today, Sunday, October 25, 2026.
The government opened its session with a presentation on the measures taken to implement the decisions issued by the President of the Republic during the last Council of Ministers meeting, concerning the regulation of the national market for widely consumed food and agricultural products, given their direct impact on citizens’ daily lives.
In this context, the various measures taken at the central and local levels to ensure the availability of essential goods at reasonable prices were reviewed, including a series of direct meetings with representatives of agricultural sector professionals and trade organizations involved in the national market supply chains.
The adopted framework relies on delegating to the wilayas’ governors (walis) the task of governing operations and activating the related mechanisms, in direct and ongoing coordination with the relevant central administrations. The aim is to achieve optimal control over the data and information affecting the smooth and transparent flow of goods from producer to consumer, and to combat all forms of illegal speculation, with deterrent measures taken in coordination with the security and judicial authorities to protect citizens’ purchasing power.
The government then heard the findings of the expert workshop tasked with drafting the bill containing the standards for housing in forest areas, in implementation of the President’s instructions dated August 30, 2026.
On this occasion, the government noted that the outcomes of the technical committee’s work will be submitted for approval at the meeting of the sectoral committee established by the Prime Minister on September 16, 2026, and that the bill primarily aims to protect people and property from fire hazards and to facilitate field procedures for the various intervention operations.
The government also heard a presentation on the reference framework for the technical and architectural standards of the vocational training and education sector. The framework aims to modernize the sector’s institutions by standardizing their design and equipment standards and adopting environmental and digital specifications, in order to rationalize construction costs and improve the quality of educational spaces, ensuring that young trainees acquire skills and competencies that match labor market needs.
At the close of the meeting, as part of the continued strengthening of the water security system, the government reviewed the follow-up and monitoring of work on connecting the outfall (discharge) lines of the new seawater desalination plants.
