New Press Law Implementation Texts Set for Finalization

Mohamed Bouslimani, Algeria's Minister of Communication, addressed journalists, urging them to embrace the role of "new moudjahidine" in serving the nation. During an appearance on Chaîne 3, the Minister announced that the implementation texts for the organic law on information are nearing finalization. This legislative advancement is part of broader government efforts aimed at modernizing the Algerian press landscape, alongside plans for establishing new regulatory authorities and initiating extensive training programs for media professionals.

The upcoming finalization of these texts is intended to consolidate the rules governing journalistic practice and support the evolution of audiovisual, written, and digital media platforms. Minister Bouslimani emphasized that a comprehensive training program, covering various specializations, will be made available to journalists in both public and private sectors. This initiative underscores the importance of continuous professional development, which he highlighted as a fundamental pillar for the national press's modernization and a shared responsibility for media enterprises to ensure their personnel's ongoing skill enhancement.

Furthermore, the Minister underscored the critical need for a digital transition to ensure the viability of press companies, advocating for the adoption of new economic models. He reiterated the state's commitment to supporting the sector, including measures to end undeclared work, guarantee social coverage, and respect journalists' contractual rights and responsibilities. Bouslimani also called upon national media outlets to actively promote the state's significant structuring projects and to maintain vigilance, professionalism, and mobilization in what he described as a "media war" against disinformation campaigns, urging a proactive approach based on fact-checking and rapid, credible information dissemination.
