Russia-Africa Summit Affirms Algeria’s Pivotal Role, Shared Views

Russian President Vladimir Putin lauded Algeria's integral role as a strategic partner during the Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow, highlighting the established quality of relations between the two nations. This sentiment was echoed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who earlier emphasized the "historic and centuries-old" nature of Algeria-Russia relations and a convergence of views on regional and international matters.

During the summit, Russia explicitly reaffirmed its support for the settlement of the Western Sahara issue. President Putin underscored Russia's commitment to addressing the matter within the framework of the right to self-determination, as adopted by the United Nations. In his address to the summit participants, delivered by Prime Minister Seifi Ghrieb, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune expressed sincere appreciation for Russia's firm and principled stance on the Sahrawi cause, recognizing its steadfast commitment to the UN process and the efforts of the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy towards a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution in line with UN principles and Security Council resolutions.

President Tebboune further reaffirmed Algeria's commitment to pursuing efforts aimed at strengthening cooperation and partnership between Russia and African countries, aspiring to elevate these ties to higher levels. Algeria's vision, as conveyed in the President's message, is centered on enhancing peace, security, and development, and fostering cooperation and partnership built on mutual respect and shared interests. This commitment seeks to ensure a balanced and sustainable partnership that aligns with the African continent's development priorities and contributes to a more equitable global order.
