APN Bureau Reviews Penal Code Amendments

Speaker of the National People's Assembly (APN), Khalida Boufedeche, recently presided over a meeting of the assembly's bureau. The session was dedicated to examining proposed amendments to the penal code, signaling Algeria's ongoing commitment to legislative modernization and the continuous evolution of its legal framework.

The proposed bill seeks to modify and supplement Ordinance N 66-156, which governs the penal code. This legislative initiative had previously been presented to members of the APN by the Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, Lotfi Boudjemaa.

The review by the APN Bureau is a crucial step in the legislative process, ensuring thorough consideration of all aspects of the proposed changes. Among the amendments are proposals to introduce the death penalty for perpetrators of arson and child abduction, reflecting efforts to reinforce justice and public safety within the country.
