Arab Ministers Council Adopts Algeria’s Anti-Desertification Initiative

The Arab Environment Ministers Council, convening for its 37th session, adopted a resolution concerning Algeria's initiative to combat desertification through the Grand Green Belt project. The Council reiterated its commendation for this Algerian endeavor, acknowledging its significant role in addressing desertification and facilitating the restoration of land and ecosystems.
This resolution mandates that the Grand Green Belt project be referred to a specialized technical committee for further study. The objective is to establish the necessary procedures for its implementation and eventual generalization across the Arab region. Such a measure is designed to maximize the benefits derived from Algeria's experience and to foster the exchange of valuable expertise and practices in the fight against desertification.
The current decision reaffirms the Arab Environment Ministers Council's previous endorsement during its 36th session, which also recognized the value of Algeria's Grand Green Belt experience and called for its broader application at the Arab level. This continuity underscores the commitment to bolster joint Arab efforts in confronting the pressing challenges of desertification, land degradation, and climate change.
