Hyundai Officials Meet Algerian Minister on Auto Cooperation

Algerian Minister of Industry Farid Kortel held discussions with Tariq Ismail Masaad, Head of Hyundai for the Middle East and North Africa region, on the sidelines of the African Automotive Investment Forum. The meeting, which took place in New Alamein City, Egypt, on Friday, October 2, 2026, focused on identifying opportunities for enhanced cooperation and investment within the automotive industry.

This initiative aligns with Algeria's strategic goals to strengthen its mechanical industries. Key objectives include developing efficient handling systems and increasing the rate of local integration within the automotive manufacturing sector. The broader African Automotive Investment Forum, organized by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in partnership with the AfCFTA Secretariat, aimed to unlock the continent's automotive potential and advance value chains.

During his participation in the forum, Minister Kortel also conducted a series of bilateral meetings. These engagements included discussions with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdel Attie, Egyptian Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem, and Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh. Such meetings are part of a wider effort to foster industrial and investment partnerships, particularly within the burgeoning automotive sector, to promote local production and enhance supply chain development across the African market.
