Blida Hosts National Agri-Food Fair, Focuses on Export Growth

The inaugural National Agri-Food Trade Fair commenced in Blida, gathering over 90 exhibitors and economic operators at the Mustapha Tchaker sports complex. Organized under the slogan “Local Quality and Promising Export Prospects,” the event aimed to showcase national products, foster business connections, and strengthen the sector’s export potential. Foreign Trade and Export Promotion Minister Kamel Rezig highlighted the qualitative transformation within the agri-food sector since 2020, which has contributed to Algeria achieving self-sufficiency in numerous food products that were previously imported.
Minister Rezig noted the increasingly visible results of efforts on the ground, with Algerian food products successfully entering markets across Europe, Africa, the Arab world, Canada, and the United States. He emphasized that many of these products are now domestically manufactured, reflecting the growing capacity of Algerian producers and improved product quality that allows companies to increasingly compete in international markets. The fair also welcomed over 16 ambassadors and diplomatic missions, providing international representatives with insight into Algeria’s agri-food industry development.
Looking ahead, the government plans to support businesses in identifying new markets and enhancing product quality, design, and packaging to meet international standards and improve global competitiveness. A significant development on the sidelines of the fair was the launch of Algeria’s first instant baking powder production line by the SIM Group. This new product, intended for both professional bakers and households, is also slated for export and is projected to save Algeria over $100 million annually by reducing instant baking powder imports, underscoring the sector’s dual focus on meeting domestic demand and expanding export capabilities.
