Chief of Staff Installs New Gendarmerie Commander, Emphasizes Trust

On behalf of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Head of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, Lieutenant General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People's National Army, oversaw the official installation of Major General Ali Sidane as the new Commander of the National Gendarmerie. The ceremony, which took place on Thursday, October 8, 2026, saw Major General Sidane succeed Major General Sid Ahmed Bormane. Following a tribute to the heroic martyr Larbi Ben M'hidi and an inspection of personnel, Lieutenant General Chanegriha officially proclaimed the appointment and supervised the national flag handover and the signing of the power transfer minutes.
During a guidance address delivered via videoconference to all National Gendarmerie units, Lieutenant General Chanegriha underscored the critical importance of continuously strengthening relations with citizens and preserving their trust as a fundamental source of success. He commended the National Gendarmerie units for their effective role in protecting borders, combating terrorism, sabotage, drug trafficking, and related crimes, as well as their contribution to safeguarding strategic areas and sensitive points across the nation.
Lieutenant General Chanegriha urged the force's officers and personnel to demonstrate unwavering determination, perseverance, and sacrifice in fulfilling their duties and serving their homeland. He emphasized that the responsibility of leading men with professional competence, integrity, and sincerity is noble and vital, requiring thoughtfulness and insight in interactions with subordinates. This includes providing comprehensive care through guidance, awareness, and ensuring training and preparation are aligned with optimal task performance in all circumstances.
