Global Report Places Algeria Second in Education Spending

Algeria has been ranked second globally in education spending as a percentage of its Gross Domestic Product, according to international reports for 2026. This classification was highlighted by a report from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a specialized agency of the United Nations. The findings underscore the substantial financial resources the Algerian state allocates to its education sector.
Further details from the WIPO report reveal that Algeria also secured the second position worldwide in government funding per secondary student, when measured against per capita GDP. Public expenditure on education in Algeria reached approximately 9 percent of its GDP, a figure that illustrates the scale of national commitment to developing human capital within the country.
The report also placed Algeria third globally in the composite education index for blended education, reinforcing its presence among leading countries in international indicators related to education financing and evaluation. These consistent high rankings affirm the prominent place education holds within Algeria's public spending priorities, reflecting ongoing investments aimed at advancing the national educational system.
