Council of Arab Ministers Supports Algerian Anti-Desertification Effort

The Council of Arab Ministers of Environment, during its 37th session held in Cairo, officially approved a decision commending Algeria's 'Seda Vert' (Green Dam) initiative. Algeria's Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, Kaouther Kriko, participated in the session, which recognized the significant role of the project in protecting lands and ecosystems and combating desertification efforts.
The decision, adopted at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Egypt, stipulates that the 'Seda Vert' project will be referred to a specialized technical committee for further study. This action aims to facilitate its implementation and generalization across the Arab world, thereby enhancing the utilization of Algeria's experience and fostering the exchange of expertise and practices in the fight against desertification. This commendation reinforces previous appreciation from the Council of Arab Ministers of Environment during its 36th session for Algeria's Green Dam initiative.
This initiative further embodies continued support for joint Arab action against the pressing challenges of desertification, land degradation, and climate change. On the sidelines of the 37th session, Minister Kriko engaged in several bilateral meetings with her Arab counterparts, including the Saudi Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, the Qatari Minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Egyptian Minister of Local Development and Environment, and the Head of the Environment Authority in Oman. These discussions focused on strengthening cooperation, exchanging expertise in environmental protection, conserving natural resources, and promoting sustainable development pathways.
